Round 9

John Stardom (Ottawa ON) is having a much better day than yesterday (he started 0-3). He is now 5-4 and is averaging 457 points per game. The smile is still there.

Handhelds and computers are everywhere here. You can almost hear them pop out in unison at the end of games. I catch Sinna Vijayakumar (Mississauga ON) and Geoffrey Newman (Brampton ON) at the pairing posting, gazing into Sinna's LAMPWORDS.

Lou Cornelis (Ottawa ON) vs. Lloyd Mills (Georgetown ON). I see SImAZiNES for 98, RAMULOUS for 64, GENTLEST for 60, and AREOLAE for 65.

Sue Tremblay (Carlsbad Springs ON) vs. Evan Berofsky (Thornhill ON): GLUTEiN and TENTORA.

Robin Pollock Daniel (Toronto ON) vs. Christopher Sykes (Cambridge ON): PrEBADE, LOITEREd, INSNAREd, EXAMINER. Robins' win, 516-364.

Lam Tang (Vancouver BC) vs. Tony Leah (Ajax ON): THEORIZED, FLEABAGS, ERASION, EbONITE. It appears that Tony's won, 470-462, but they launch into a recount right at that moment so I keep on walking. Turns out the numbers held.

Craig Rowland (Mississauga ON) played his good friend, Ron Hoekstra (Kentwood, MI), this round. Holding a pretty yucky rack, Craig was overjoyed when Ron palyed INPOUR, putting an I out. Craig slapped down GRODIEST through that I. A little later, Ron played FURY, putting the F out into the triple lane. Transfixed on played YE elsewhere for a bunch of points, Craig played FATHER down from the F, then saw that he could play FEATHER and then had the "aha" moment of FEATHERY for 101. Craig went onto to win this game, 439-306.

Jeremy Hildebrand (Ottawa ON) vs. Andrew Golding (Verdun QC). Andrew played FINAGLER through the G and then later, Jeremy played HUSTlERS/ FINAGLERS for 81 points. Andrew also got down DIRTIEST, but it wasn't enough and Jeremy won, 501-334.

A tense game just ended between Marilyn Murray (Richmond BC) and Adam Logan (Waterloo ON). He won, 422-420, by virture of a V left on her rack! Ouch! On this board, I see INFLATER and OvERRODE, both played by Adam, and TREENAIL from the T and GRIMaCED tot he D played by Marilyn. End racks were Marilyn's SCVPYO and Adam's TDEINT. Adam was behind by 28 and managed to eke out the win. She mentioned something about it being a master class in winning a game.

The best dressed today is the brave Randall Thomas (Calgary AB). He wore Bermuda shorts today!
