Round 3

I'm not sure if it is first time, but we have two sets of siblings playing at this year's CNSC. The brother and sister duo of Dean Saldanha (Richmond BC) and Dielle Saldanha (Richmond BC) and the brother and brother duo of Craig Rowland (Mississauga ON) and Grant Rowland (Mississauga ON). Craig is proud of his brother for making the CNSC (he was first on the alternate list and only found out earlier today that Bernard Gotlieb could not come). Congrats to Grant and sorry we missed you this year, Bernard! Of the Saldanhas, Dean has been the higher rated sibling for several years. Just recently, Dielle edged him out on the ratings and Dean has been taking merciless beating from all his buddies about this. Both of them are remarkably low-key about "who is higher rated" debate.

Andrew Golding (Verdun QC) vs. Max Panitch (Toronto ON): RETARGET, INDORSES, ENROLLEES, GRIEVOUS, ABALONE, and a very pretty ZAX/LAV/OXO for 64, played by Andrew.

TUFTiEST jumps out on a Joel Wapnick (Montreal QC) vs. Fran Silver (Cote Saint-Luc QC) board.

I catch Jason Broersma (Milton ON) vs. Lloyd Mills (Georgetown ON) in their end game. From Jason's scoresheet, I see Lloyd's SUITABLE 62 and Jason's INVADiNg for 61 and OOGAMETES through the ME for 62. At this point, it is 356-350, Jason's lead, and he is holding GLNT. Lloyd, holding SOREJAR, played SWORE through the W, creating DEGUMS/TOO/ERE/SEA for 38. Now it is 356-388, Lloyd's lead. GLNT was Jason's last rack as seen by me and JAR was Lloyd's. The latter won, 408-371.

Vince Castellano (Fairfax, VA) vs. Craig Rowland (Mississauga ON) had a five-bingo game. Vince played VERBENAS for 71 and RINgLETS for 58. Craig got down TROOPING for 72, VIOLATES for 86, and DAHLIAS for 73. At one point, he needed an E to play HEADAIL. Craig's win, 485-400.

Steve Ozorio (Mississauga ON) played the beautiful 147-point TILLERED this round in a game against Ross Brown (Kanata ON).

Tonight's first 3 rounds are over. When the dust settles, tomorrow the pairings will be based on how everyone did this evening and we'll continue to have performance-based pairings, avoiding repeats, until toward the end of day 3.
