Round 3

Cheryl Tyler (Lubbock, TX) is happy. She started out today with a big win against Joe Edley (Port Jefferson, NY) where she triple-tripled through a V with SWERVING. In her next game, she earned 238 points, so the SCRABBLE gods give and then the SCRABBLE gods take. Cheryl has three children and this year marks the third year that Mary Rhoades has been given one of Cheryl's children to have as an assistant. All of them have been so helpful and wonderful to work with. This year is no different. We're lucky enough to have Elijah Tyler on staff and his nametag jokingly reads "slave!"

Sam Kantimathi (Sacramento, CA) played Jacob Bergmann (Lexington, MA) this round. Two plays were noteworthy to Sam: A failed triple-triple play SABrEURS#, which Jake called off (it is Collins only) and the play that drew a challenge: DIVIDUAl (that last letter is a blank L).

Jacob Cohen (Asheville, NC) tells me that he's begun to make up for the slaughter he survived in game 1, losing to Mike Lean (Washington, DC) by "a lot." Jacob won his next two games, scoring, 482 and 481, respectively.

A gorgeous overlap took place in division 2. Ian Chesser (Houston, TX) played TUATERA for 70. Alongside, Michael Willis (Midlothian, TX) played INTONeR/TI/UN/AT/TO/EN/Re/BAR for only 74, but add 200 style points, for sure! Mike also got down MaLIGNED and Ian made the impressive play of FJELD through the separated F and E! Nice find! Mike's win, 428-344.

I see another win go down for Nigel Richards (Malaysia) at table 1. He just defeated Bradley Whitmarsh (Attleboro, MA), 438-393. Brad admits he went over on his clock by two minutes....
