Round 27

Kate Fukawa-Connelly (Kittery, ME) approached the internet station like a wounded puppy. She said, "Joey Mallick (Cape Elizabeth, ME) just beat me in 6 minutes and I played three bingos, too!" Her bingos: PTOMAINE for 74, ROOMIES for 67, and ALEATORY for 74. Joey played CRUSADeR for 83 and VoTABLE for 96, and won big, 513-376. I think Joey has won 9 games in a row! He is zooming today!

Jacob Bergmann (Lexington, MA) had his crack at Richard Spence (Tucson, AZ) at division 2's table 1 this round. Jake played PROVING for 84 and RENEGADO for 64. Richard played SPUTTERED for 63 and realized in the endgame that he'd missed ACROTISM, which might have changed the course of the game. Jake wasn't shedding many tears since he won this game, 438-343. Go Jake!

Evans Clinchy (Boston, MA) vs. Sam Rosin (Bernardsville, NJ): INCANTED, BAGASSE (Sam, multitasking mightily, pointed to this word as I wrote it and whispered, "SEABAGS, anagram."), HABITUDE, and LITERATI. Though he won, 463-375, Evans tried CAVINESS* and Sam called it off (CAVY is good, but it doesn't compare). I asked Evans where that play came from (misremembered similar word, alien interference, wishful thinking... ). He sort of grimaced and said, "I ate so much lunch, I am really, really, really full and so full, I can't really think." I smiled, politely, and Sam said, "No, Sherrie, you have no idea, his burrito was a double burrito, the size of a baby, a newborn, and he ate nearly the entire thing. It was scarily awesome... " I looked over to the side of their game timer and saw a ball of tinfoil. Evan's said, "his is all that is left, I ate 90% of a newborn."

Suhas Rao (Apex, NC) continues to be 12 years old and very good at SCRABBLE. In division 3, he defeated Zbigniew Wieckowski (Woodbury, MN), 533-259. I see Zbigniew's fun PIGSTY, but the rest were Suhas': AMBIENTS, which drew a challenge, FORWaRD, AUDILeS, and OUTSIDE.

A new player this year is Miss Andrea Ciliberti (Van Nuys, CA). She has charmed Amy Krafchick throughout the event. And during this week, she's learned all he two-letter words and is up to six wins so far. She's played in one tournament prior to the NSC, Gary Moss' event in Laguna Woods, CA. Her bingos today: EARINGS, GARDENER through the middle E, and REELING. She has a fun Cat in the Hat tank top on and she posed for photo.

Sandy Nang (Malibu, CA) had a 122-point triple-triple this round: rEADDINg through the second D in her game with Siri Tillekeratne (Calgary AB) this round.
