Round 19

Over lunch, I checked out the three-division Lunch Bird event being held on this floor of the hotel, but about 1/8 of a mile from the NSC playing room. It looked like all but one player had arrived and the games were well underway.

The coolest play that Dan Stock has seen this round so far is CABOODlE.

Harriette Lakernick (Chicago, IL) is happy! She just defeated Richard Spence (Tucson, AZ) at table 1 in division 2, 387-330. They both agree that Richard's racks were dreadful. I see her KEISTeR. His only happy moment: sticking her with the Z at the end. She isn't sure she didn't stick herself, she joked. Walking by as they wrapped up, Matt Canik (Austin, TX) thanked Harriet for beating Richard. I guess when you need to employ others to do your dirty work for you.... Kidding. Matt and Richard will square off next round, so we'll see!

Jerry Lerman (Foster City, CA) was proud of a 9 through separated letters: CILANTROS for 69 through the R and final S. He won this game, 452-398 against Robert Quigley (New Haven, CT).

I hear this sweet Southern voice, "Sherrie, I was trying to find you! I play PEROXID for 194!" I look up and Marlene Milkent (Hattiesburg, MS) is there. She just loved her last game! She got to play FILATURE as a double-double and DEVONIAN. She won with a 569. Her opponent, Sandy Nang (Malibu, CA) said she was happy for Marlene and she wonders about herself a little that she doesn't care more that she lost. I agreed that focussing on the fact that it is just a game makes loses a bit better to take!

Robin Pollock Daniel (Toronto ON) is golden in my book. She brought me back from a lunch a bag of orange Milano cookies. I'm debating whether to share or not.
