Round 6

A game finished with no players nearby. Paperwork tells me that David Boys (Dorval QC) defeated John Robertson (Cambridge ON) here, 511-322. I see WIdDIES, VINCIBLE, SIERRAN/QUOINS, and MINDLEsS.

Dean Saldanha (Richmond BC) is holding Salvatore Desiato (Toronto ON) as I walk by. Finally, the clock is quietly depressed, the word is written down, and carried over to the WordJudge computer. Turns out that Sal's endgame desperation bingo--UNPIQuED--is not acceptable. Sal quickly removed the offending tiles from the board and the game continued.

Another completed board with AWOL players. I see that that Tony Leah (Ajax ON) has defeated Fran Silver (Cote Saint-Luc QC), 491-338. I see Fran's solid BLITZ for 32, QUITE for 28, and DEED for 30. But this plugging away wasn't enough when compared to Tony's OUTVIeD for 86, MOURNING for 67, and INDUSIAl for 70.

I walk by a game just wrapping up and overhead Shannon Burns (Airdrie AB) say, "I'm not used to saying I lost by 116 points when I scored 399!" It was a 6-bingo game that went Tim's way, 515-399. Tim played TEALIKE for 82, TALLOWED for 63, and DRIVELS for 85. Shannon got down ACEQuIA for 92, PARITIES for 72, and MENDERS for 80. Part of what explains the spread is that in the endgame, Tim was able to play WARS from the triple, hooking to make ACEQUINAS for 40 points.

Fern Lindzon (Toronto ON) had a frustrating game against Emanuel Chicoine (Montreal QC) this rounde. On his second play, Emanual got down LEGATING for 83. A few turns later, Fren played cAREENS for 75, but was still trailing by 24 points. Emanuel managed a 50-point EX play and Fern got down lIAISED for 60 (that should read LIAISED). At this point, it was 264-261 in Emanual's favor. HAVE for 54 was Emanual's next play and holding QGCOOOA, Fern opted to trade 7. At this point, the tiles weren't cutting Fern any slack. Emanual got down JUN for 20 and CHAW for 36 while Fern struggled, eventually picking the Q again and getting stuck with it in the endgame. Despite how close the game was at one point, Fern lost, 355- 451. Next stop for Emanual, table 1 and the waiting Adam Logan (United Kingdom).
