Round 6

Joey Mallick (Cape Elizabeth, ME) played Amnuay Ploysangngam (THA) this round. Neither player is by the finished board, but I see their paperwork: 369-353, win for Amnuay. I see Amnuay's WINTeRS for 74 and the unlikely coincidence that both players last plays were the word VERY.

Amy Krafchick, helping in division 5, comes over to tell me that a 10-year-old boy is playing a 90-year-old woman and the game is in progress. I saunter over and Sophia Murzin (Dearborn Heights, MI) deadpanned to me, "I know she said I'm 90, but I'm not, I'm 92." I wanted to hug her! Women seem to only confess to less age, not more! I resisted the urge since they were still playing. A few minutes later, when their game had ended up and after they had resolved the paperwork, I checked it out: a 433-358 win for David Steinke (Indianapolis, IN). While Sophia played FRiENDS, David got down three bingos: BElIEVE, NAILERS, and TRAINER. Just newly 10 this month, David is home schooled, used to play School SCRABBLE and might again soon. He and his teammate placed third in an Indiana State School SCRABBLE Championship.

I stop by a game just wrapping up between Shelley Ubeika (Mississauga ON) and Bobbi Hendrickson (Minneapolis, MN). It is a 426-405 win for Shelley. She says in jest, "yes this is our board, yes these are our scores, but we are not responsible for the words being valid!" I see BARKIER on their board. Shelley says, "If my math is right, this win gives me a record of 3-3 +0." We all chuckled at her middle of the road performance thus far.

On a Michael Baker (Porland, OR) vs. Jim Kramer (Roseville, MN) board I see ZOYSIAS.

Rafi Stern (Seattle, WA) just won his second game in a row at table 1 in division 1. He continues on, undefeated, having played Andrew Solomon (Barrington, IL). Check out thier annotated game this round!
