Round 17

Joey Krafchick (Roswell, GA) just wrapped up a game with Katie Devanney (Paoli, PA) in division 2. Both of these players came to us via the School SCRABBLE program. This was a 6-bingo game, two of which were Katie's: BILGIEST for 89 and PENiSES for 64. Joey played EXONUMIA ro 84, LUSHING for 76 (drew a challenge), TRAILERS for 77, and DUNElIKE for 89.

On a Cheryl Cadieux (Bay City, MI) vs. Betty Cornelison (Portland, OR): BEDROOPS and ZINGERS.

Dave Leonard (Buffalo, NY) vs. Maureen Kennerk (Hicksville, OH): FURZIER and ITERANT.

Stephanie Steele (St. Paul, MN) vs. Errol Wilson (Brooklyn, NY): BENChERS and NITRIDE.

Daniel Citron (Chicago, IL) vs. Chris Canik (Austin, TX): QUILTERS and FOAMERS.

Russell Stewart (Atlanta, GA) vs. Brian Miller (Orlando, FL). Russell played NOBLESE, FEEZES, STANDERS, and MIDGUT. Brian found SPOONInG, WEAKENERS (which drew a challenge), and LOUVERED. Brian's win, 438-426.

Pamela Cass (Columbus, OH) squared off with Tristan Vanech (Venice, CA) at div 5's table 1. Midway through their game, he tried SAMPIES*, which she challenged off. After the game, he pulled out his Franklin and looked up SAMPIES. Turns out he could have played IMPASSE. He won the game, 493-276. Tristan is now 14-3 and holding the first place slot in division 5. Tristan's dad is also playing at the event in division 4, Bob Vanech (Venice, CA). Today they are both wearing maroon "Hail Mary Doug Flutie" jersies with the number 22 on the front and back.

Lilla Sinanan (Stoney Creek ON), dressed in a gorgeous sheer yellow top with ribbons hanging down (she looks like a present!), played Tapani Lindgren (Roseville, CA) this round. They were paired against each other earlier in the event, but Tapini overslept and Lilla received a bye. She far prefers actually getting to play, despite losing this game, 365-436. On their board I see MoLDINGS, SINUATe, and TRENDER.

So my notes say: PEDAGOguE for 63 points, played through the ED in round 4. Somehow it was beyond me to write who this actually was...... sorry.

Rafi Stern (Seattle, WA) vs. Jerry Lerman (San Francisco, CA): BONSAIS* was tried by Jerry and called off by Rafi. (BASIONS is the real play). Jerry did get down SoUDANS for 83 and VERIEsT for 91. Rafi played REDLINES for 70 and stuck Jerry with the QF. It was a 402-389 win for Rafi.

Jon Shreve (Denver, CO) got his chance to play Nigel Richards (MYS) this round at table 1 in division 1. Each player got down two bingos (Jon's ATELIERS for 66 and DAUTIES for 72; Nigel's LARGEsT for 83 and UNISONAL for 70) and Jon challenged Nigel's DINGLE and lost a turn. Tune into the annotated game to check it out!
