Round 26

Today has been one ongoing weather event. The rain has been coming down so loudly, we can hear it pounding on the Convention Center's roof. And the crash of thunder reverberates around, too. Nigel Richards (MYS) made his long walk in today and arrived on the dry side. Bryan Pepper exclaimed surprise at the fact that Nigel wasn't soaked. He explained, "Well, there is this invention, Bryan, that I packed away in my luggage called an umbrella. It really works wonders."

Christopher Sykes (Cambridge ON) defeated fellow countryman Adam Logan (New York, NY), 412-363. I glance over their board and see Adam's RESITES on the triple that front hooked to make RUNCINATES. Christoper played GEOtAXIS, NUTSEDGE, UNCINATE, and OOZiER.

Ian Weinstein (Coral Springs, FL) vs. Dave Wiegand (Portland, OR). A close battle! I see Ian's lovely RIMpLING to the G on the triple lane for 80 and DILUENTS for 70. Dave played CUMBERS for 86 and OOGAMETE for 70. Dave's win, 419-411.

Big win for former WSC champ, Joel Wapnick (Montreal QC) this round over Rafi Stern (Seattle, WA), 479-360. Both players are gone, but there is photo of their game in this round's photo section.

QUARTZITEs along the top triple row calls me over to the Marc Broering (Louisville, KY) vs. Jerry Lerman (San Francisco, CA) board. Marc played the first half and Jerry the second. They were very involved in figuring out why they took the phonies they did (or why the words were even played), so I just took down notes and let them noodle: MARVELER*, GOITERS, aCONITES, and TOOTSEYS* were other bingos in this 425-423 win for Jerry.

Longtime friends, Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) and Nigel Richards (MYS) sit down to play at the annotated table 1 in division 1. Nigel started off with back to back bingos: BORIDES for 79 and IDENTIFY for 80. Midway through, he played SEVRUAGE for 76. Pakorn got one: INvERSED for 77. Nigel's win, 456-386. Check out this full game in the annotated game section.
