Round 27

Vivienne Muhling (Toronto ON) played Noah Lieberman (Charlotte, NC) this round. Noah had some lovely tiles and he played four bingos: WINTERED for 72, NURSerY for 80, TRAGICS for 75, and the outbingo RELATED for 82. Vivienne played STORMING for 74 and is proud to have drawn a challenge on her pay of OWSE. Noah's win, 522-374.

A Beth Palmer (Evansville, IN) vs. Tristan Vanech (Venice, CA) game is going on. I glance over the scoresheet and see Beth's UNVEnTED for 86 and Tristan's AEROLITE for 62, RAIMENTS for 89, REALTIES for 84, RICHEST/HADJIS for 97. This last play went down in front of me and she held him, eventually deciding to challenge HADJIS, which Tristan hooked on to play RICHEST along the bottom middle triple. IT was good.

Tracy Bowman (Chicago, IL) is taking her turn at table 1 against Dave Leonard (Buffalo, NY). Ben Lam (Toronto ON) is taking on Joe South (Piqua, OH) at the next table. Brand new games, not much to say, yet!

So much intrigue in division 5! I hear a call for the "director" and the man in purple springs to action. Turns out that both Andy Murphy (Greensboro, NC) and Peter Filandro (Wilmington, DE) have less than seven tiles on their racks. One of them has played small and discovered only then that there was a tile left in the bag. I see Dan Stock trying to get them to back up to discover who was supposed to take that tile. I leave before it is resolved, but the players seem more curious about how to proceed than worried about who gets the tile.

Gene Tyszka (Mississauga ON) calls me over to see his game with Hans Oh (Mississauga ON). Hans was doing the "putting the tiles into the four corners" when Gene said, "let her see it!" What he wanted me to see was the "unusual" word he played to win the game. He found UmIAQ for 26 which won him the game, 361-350!

I find John Fultz (Savoy, IL) typing quietly into his handheld. This round he played Stephen Sneed (Ft. Worth, TX), who won, 432-304. But, John got to play STEGODONs through the disconnected E and first O for 74 points. Wow! Nice find!!!

As he did in round 13, Dave Wiegand (Portland, OR) has defeated Nigel Richards (MYS). I glance over their board quickly and see Dave's CAREErED for 90, SAVORED for 80, and ArENITE for 75. I'm intrigued by Nigel's IRACUND! Check out the whole game in the annotated g game area!
