David Gibson won the 1994 National SCRABBLE Championship in Los Angeles, CA, and the 2016 North American SCRABBLE Championship in Fort Wayne, IN.

The impressive four-game margin by which he won the 1994 event, and his subsequent generosity in sharing his winnings with his training partners, led to the coining of the SCRABBLE jargon "to Gibsonize", meaning to stop pairing with lesser contenders a player who has already clinched a title before the end of an event.
