2002 NSC Player Information

Thank you for registering to play in the 2002 National SCRABBLE® Championship. To make sure that your trip to the NSC is hassle-free, please make sure that you:

  • Book your hotel accommodation. See our hotel information page to find out local hotels with reserved blocks of rooms.

  • If you didn't already do so when you registered, please let us know where you will be staying, so that we can reach you in case of an emergency.

  • Bring a set of Protiles. You can order a set from the WORD GEAR catalog.

  • Bring a game timer.

  • Bring a completed W-9 tax form. (You may fill one out at registration instead, but this will delay your check-in process.)

  • Order the official event cap from the WORD GEAR catalog.

  • If you have a digital photo of yourself that you would like to add to our player database, please follow the instructions given in our photo submission form

  • Please come to the tournament site on Saturday, August 17th between 10:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. to pick up your contestant package and register. If you are unable to do so, you may contact the NSA office before August 9th to arrange to register at the reception between 5:30 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. If you discover after August 9th but on or before August 11th that you will be arriving late, please e-mail Jane Williams at info@scrabble-assoc.com. \ For further detail about what happens when, please see the schedule.

Looking for a place to eat? The San Diego Concourse has two concession stands just outside the event room that will be open for lunch from 12:30-2:45 during our event. These stands will offer, at very reasonable prices, a variety of options including hot dogs, sandwiches, sushi, nachos, pizza, dessert, candy and beverages. A hot lunch selection will also be available each day. Seating will be available in our breakfast room, Plaza Hall, directly across from the event room. There are also many other places to eat within a few blocks of the San Diego Concourse.

Playing after hours? Please note that Deluxe SCRABBLE® Game boards will not be given away to each contestant at this year's championship. We will keep open the traditional after-hours playing room and provide a limited number of sets for use there, but if you want to play elsewhere we ask that you bring your own. The tradition of awarding the game boards used at the NSC to the winner of the last game (Round 31) continues unchanged.

Shopping for souvenirs? Visit our WORD GEAR table in the tournament room. We'll feature our full line of merchandise every day. Can't make it to the tournament? Order on-line and have it mailed to you!
