== How Titles are Earned ==
Each yearFor player recognition purposes, we calculate overall performance ratings (OPR) for all players based on their our tournament activity from year begins when the start of first game begins at the previous year’s[[North American SCRABBLE Championship]] (NASC),to and ends just before the last tournament that first game begins before the start of at the current year’s next NASC.The player with the highest OPR is designated the [[Awards|Player of the Year]].
ThenWe rank players according to their overall performance ratings (OPR).An OPR is like a tournament performance rating (PR), we consider those players who have but takes into account all of the games played 50 games in each during a period of 3 time, regardless of thepast 5 such OPR calculation yearshow many tournaments they were played in.
The top 1% are eligible to player with the highest OPR each tournament year is designated our [[Awards|Player of the Year]]. Now, when deciding who will become a SCRABBLE Grandmasters Expert (GMEX);, the top 6% SCRABBLE Master (not including the top 1%SM) are eligible to become or SCRABBLE Masters Grandmaster (SMGM);each year,we look at OPR calculated over rolling periods of 5 consecutive tournamentyears, and consider only those players who have played 50 games in each of 3 of the 5 tournament years making up each such quinquennium. We list those players according to their 5-year OPR, and see who falls withinwhich percentile. Those in the top 25% (not including are named SCRABBLE Experts, those in the top 6%) are eligible to become SCRABBLE Masters, and those in the top 1% SCRABBLEExperts (EX)Grandmasters.
Players retain earned titles as long as they maintain their memberships
in good standing, or until they earn a superior title.
