Number of members

The Canadian Committee (CC) is comprised of six members, with at least one residing in each of the following three regions:

  • Ontario
  • Western Canada
  • Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces

Additionally, no more than three members will be allowed from any one of the above regions.

Committee member selection process

  • New members will each serve a three-year term.
  • Two members will be elected each year.
  • A lottery was held in Dayton, OH on August 1, 2009 to determine when the terms of the current Canadian Committee members would end. (Note: John Aitken and Tony Leah each volunteered to have his term end on December 31, 2009.) The Dayton lottery randomly determined that the terms of both John Robertson and Jeff Parsons will end on December 31, 2010. The terms of David Boys and Siri Tillekeratne will both end on December 31, 2011.
  • These elections will take place every November for terms beginning the following January 1.
  • Candidacies and nominations for prospective CC members for the November 2009 election began on August 10, 2009.
  • The first election will take place from November 1 to 30, 2009. (Note: This election will not be held as only two candidates chose to run for election. Tony Leah and Randall Thomas were elected by acclamation.)
  • Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are NASPA members in good standing will be allowed to participate in the electoral process.

The exact mechanism of this process is to be determined, but there will most likely be an online ballot form that will be linkable from both the NASPA membership renewal page and from the Canadian Committee home page.

Feedback

We invite your input to determine the best possible way of making the CC a responsible and accountable body representing the interests of all Canadian Scrabble players. We ask that all Canadian NASPA members participate in the electoral process. Discussion can be posted to the Canadian Committee yahoo groups site by emailing naspa-canada@yahoogroups.com.
