2008 Can-Am SCRABBLE Challenge
The Sixth Annual Can-Am SCRABBLE® Challenge will take place on June 21–22, 2008 at the Courtyard & Residence Inn by Marriott at 5050-5070 Creekbank Road, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada L4W 5R2. Standings will be updated regularly over the course of the event. It is being organised and directed by Toronto Scrabble Club director John Chew, who can be reached by e-mail at jjchew@math.utoronto.ca or by phone at 416-876-7675.
A small block of rooms will be held until May 21st at $89/night: please use this reservations link to make your booking, and contact the director so that he can keep track of the total number of rooms booked, in case we need to ask for more. If you would prefer to be billeted with a local Scrabble player (CanAm participant or not), please also contact the director, as soon as possible, to be paired with a host player.
A $35 entry fee will be collected at the beginning of the event to cover the cost of the playing room and the rating fee.
The hotel runs a free shuttle to and from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Call the hotel at 905 625 3555 to request pickup at the airport; ask at the front desk to book your return ride.
It is not impossible to get to the tournament venue by public transit (look for a Mississauga Transit #7 bus), but if you need a ride, please try asking the director.
The hotel restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, but does not unfortunately serve lunch on weekends. They suggest that there are a number of nearby restaurants which will deliver to the hotel (pizza, Chinese or Swiss Chalet), and that the breakfast chef can be asked to prepare sandwiches for sale at lunch if we estimate how many people will be interested.
