Apply for NASPA Membership

To begin, we need to know if the membership is for a player who has a tournament rating. If you are not sure, please check our Rating List. If you do not understand the question, please contact the Membership Committee. Please do not guess.

Rated Player

Be very careful about how you spell the player’s name. If the player has a tournament rating, the name must match the name in the rating list. If the player has no tournament rating, the name must (at least for now) be different from any other name in the rating list.

We offer several different membership plans. Please read the table below carefully to find the one that best suits your needs.

Plan Cost Description
Regular 30 One year of membership in the association. You will be assigned the next available membership number in sequence.
Single-Event 19 One week of membership in the association. If you are a rated adult player who plays in only one tournament per year, this plan is for you. It takes effect as soon as we process your payment though, so please request it right before the event you plan on playing in.
Trial 15 Six months of membership in the association, available only to players who do not have an NSA or NASPA tournament rating. You may extend this to a full year for an additional $15 anytime during your first six months.
Youth 15 One year of membership in the association. This offer is open only to members who are not yet eighteen years old as of the first day of their membership.
Vanity 50 One year of membership in the association. You may choose a higher unassigned number in the current membership number series.
Lifetime $20/year Lifetime membership in the association, at $20 per year or part thereof to age 80, minimum payment $20. (Available soon)

If you want a youth membership, you must give us your date of birth to confirm your eligibility.

You may pay for up to five years of membership in advance. Adult memberships are reduced from $30 to $25 per year beginning with the second year purchased. Youth memberships remain at $15 per year until the member turns 18 and then rise to the adult renewal rate of $25.

Membership Length

We need to be able to contact you from time to time, and prefer to do so electronically to minimize our expenses. We can also help you share your contact information with others in the SCRABBLE community, but will only do so with your permission.

NASPA members must comply with the NASPA Code of Conduct, and any member who does not do so, or whose actions are not consistent with the corporation’s stated goals will have his or her membership suspended or terminated.

If you are applying for one or more new full-year memberships and were referred by an existing NASPA member, please enter the referrer’s ID here. The member who referred you will receive an extra month’s membership for each new full-year membership.

Referral ID 

There are three different ways in which you can pay for your membership:

  1. You can pay us online now by Visa or MasterCard, and your membership will be active as soon as we receive notification of your payment, usually within 24 hours.
  2. You can mail your payment to us in the form of a check or money order, and your membership will be active within a day of our receiving your payment.
  3. If you are a certified NASPA director, you may combine payment with the participation fee for your next tournament, and your membership will be active immediately.
